HI THERE THANKS FOR ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS FOR US.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM/ PROJECT?
Well it’s a 4 track EP called ‘Out of Time’, containing songs I wrote a few years ago now. It’s a mix up of British Rhythm and Blues and Southern Boogie, or at least this is how someone described it to me in the pub recently. Its guitar music, it’s vibrant, thoughtful, loud and acoustic here and there too. I think it’s a late night listening record. Have a drink or whatever and turn the lights down.
WHAT INSPIRED ANY CENTRAL THEMES ON THE ALBUM?
Lyrically speaking? The first song Handsome Curves is pretty simple, Find someone you like and keep them. If stuff isn’t working, move on, don’t fight it. Movietown is political really, a slow blues but with a bite, inspired by a juxtaposition of religious celebration post millennium coinciding with the American/ UK invasion of Afghanistan in 2002 /3. Tea and Toast is about having fun, in the bed. Freak Out was originally called ‘Emergency Biscuit Scoff’ and isn’t about anything, Just FREAK OUT about whatever you like. So, yes it’s a mixed bag really. My wife put an early version of the last song on Facebook with the comment: ’This is what it’s like inside my husband’s head.’
HOW LONG DID YOU SPEND RECORDING?
Oh God forever I think…..because it’s not a band on there, it’s mostly me. The ideas stayed on a shelf for a long time, such a long time I ain’t even gonna tell ya. It was a big thrill to finally play them live though.
HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?
It’s always different. Sometimes you get the music or a riff and then need words, something will suggest itself. Other times it all comes at once, like - run for the Zoom.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE TRACK FROM THE ALBUM?
Yes, Movietown. It’s the first song I really wrote, and the sentiments therein still ring true to me now
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?
Okay I’ll keep this brief, In order: James Hunt, John Lennon, Lemmy, Frank Zappa.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
The last line up in 2017 was made up of friends of mine from Wakefield. Don t know at this time who will be in it next
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?
Stay true to yourself, and don t believe your own bullshit !
