We chat to Arctic Dreams about taking their inspiration from Vikings, Metallica and meet the joker of the band!

[ALEX_Y]: Hi. My name is Alex_Y. I am the leader, founder and main author of Arctic Dreams.

[ROMAN]: I’m a drummer of Arctic Dreams
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
[ALEX_Y]: Our new single Storm is nothing like our previous album. We decided to surprise the listener and moved a bit away from the concept of the first album. We wrote this song in the aesthetics of the Vikings and their culture, and it's very much in line with the main idea of our band
[SYDIUS]: Too busy rehearsing for it ”
[NENAD]: It is a heavier and faster approach than the previous one, a lot of surprises.
[ROMAN]: Just check this out, isn’t it amazing?”
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
[ALEX_Y]: As I said above the Vikings and their culture
[SYDIUS]: Necessity to record
[NENAD]: Creativity knows no limits, but the brake had to be pulled at some point.
[ROMAN]: Blast Beats, I love them
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
[ALEX_Y]: Rage and raid a Drakkar through a storm in the north sea
[SYDIUS]: An ordered consequence of musical tones
[NENAD]: More technical than the previous one, I would say even more progressive.We had some new ideas and a goal of approaching it to sound fresher, newer, or to be said more infamously “more modern” haha. But the image of Arctic Dreams is still present, so we haven’t gone too far.
[ROMAN]: It is just damn awesome.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
[ALEX_Y]: Master of Puppets Metallica and Imaginations of the Other Side Blind Guardian. It was these two records that gave me the idea of creating a Meta Universe
[SYDIUS]: Still haven’t been invited to the record for Miley Cyrus”
[NENAD]: Creed’s Weathered album. That was my official introduction to heavier music.
[ROMAN]: Korol i Shut - Kamnem to Golove and Blind Guardian - Mirror, Mirror
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
[ALEX_Y]: Yes, it will be a videography of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. And also, of course, our first video for “The City Built on Bones” is of special importance for us. This video tells about St. Petersburg where our project was founded.
[SYDIUS]: I have a Youtube playlist with favorite music videos. I love classical 80-90s era with all those cinematic lighting videos. Recently I enjoyed the aesthetics of Enya. And the latest Falling in Reverse is crazy!
[NENAD]: Welcome To The Machine by Pink Floyd.
[ROMAN]: I don’t think I have one.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
[ALEX_Y]: I'm still working. And it's not a music-related job
[SYDIUS]: I’d find myself in an art museum
[NENAD]: Probably doing animations, videos editing, producing.
[ROMAN]: I’m a full-stack Laravel+Vue developer
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
[ALEX_Y]: Uh, sure. I try to get a good night's rest before I perform. It's very important for a vocalist
[SYDIUS]: I haven’t performed for a while. I think it will be like the first time!
[NENAD]: Once I view it as a job it makes things easier.
[ROMAN]: I don’t feel any discomfort from it. I really enjoy performing life
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
[ALEX_Y]: It all started when I moved to St. Petersburg in 2009 from the South of Russia and met Sydius on one of the music forum
[SYDIUS]: “ I can tranFORM ya, I can transFORM ya, anything you want, I can I can get it for ya ”
[NENAD]: Alex and I met at a local gig in Belgrade and the rest is history.
[ROMAN]: I just joined it=)
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGEHTER?
[ALEX_Y]: Well now we have that process changed. Since we have new members... I bring the general idea, then the guys take it and propose their own version of the arrangement, which we then approve or reject.
[SYDIUS]: A top secret swedish songwriter
[NENAD]: We work together as much as possible. For this new album that I’m a part of, Alex wrote really good ideas and I just worked off from that adding new stuff or expanding an idea. Gena and Roman add their signature talents on their instruments and there you have it.
[ROMAN]: Usually, I just write drums
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
[ALEX_Y]: Inspiration can come from all sorts of things: books, disasters, video games, etc
[SYDIUS]: Poorly soaked cod, Friday lentils and Sunday pigeon
[NENAD]: Breathing.
[ROMAN]: Everything
WHAT IS NEXT?
[ALEX_Y]: On August 14th of this year, we released the first single from the second album. You should pay attention to it, I think it will surprise the listener very much. And so recently we took our drummer Roman into the band and we are slowly preparing for the concerts.
[SYDIUS]: One more time, Chorus…
