Australian punk rockers Poison Oak talk about their debut album and working on album #2

We’re Poison Oak, an Australian Indie Punk Rock Band, from Australia, Queensland

Townsville. We’ve been around for about five years.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE

Our new album is called ‘These Suburban Dreams’. We recorded in July of 2022, and have

finally released it in May 2024. It ten songs, and I guess it is the development of our new

sound that will lead into second album.

WHICH SONG WOULD YOU SAY SUMS UP YOUR SOUND THE BEST?

That’s hard to say, I’d say on the rockier side of things, maybe Apocalypse, but in slower,

ballad aspect potentially Homesick.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?

I guess in high school, I was liking listening to bands, so me and my friends decided to

start playing some music. We thought it was cool, and we were all doing it together.

WHAT DOES TYPICAL WRITING AND RECORDING DAY LOOK LIKE?

Well, they’re both are different scenarios. Recording depends on what instrument we’re

looking at. Usually, with the producer, we will discuss different parts, dissect try out

different things. Mostly, the other band members will be on the couch throwing in their

ideas depending on who is recording at the time. However, sometimes the person

recording might just be charging through departs with no distractions or stopping. It really

depends on the song and what it needs.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR BAND NAME/ STAGE NAME?

Poison Oak, is the title of a Bright Eyes song from their 'I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning'

Album

WHAT'S NEXT?

We’ve recorded the first four songs of our second album. We’re pretty stoked about how

they’ve turned out, and have captured a stronger rock and punk sound. We

worked with Brock Weston from the Australian band Bugs for this one, and pretty keen

to release them.
