PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
The band is based in the Quad Cities, Illinois/Iowa area. Being located right off of Interstate 80 in the middle of the country, we see a lot of touring groups stopping off to play. We are aged, aging, and out of touch with the local music scene for the most part. Most of the bands we know are peers who we have been playing in bands with for decades.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
November 2022 we released our latest album, “You Better Watch Out”. It is a collection of both original and cover Christmas songs. We have been wanting to make a Christmas album for some time and finally got around to it this year. Planning for the album started around this time last year and we began recording in June and July 2022. The second half of the year was spent mixing, mastering, and working on new merchandise to accompany the release.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
We have been playing Christmas songs as a band for over a decade. It started shortly before we released our debut album, “What You Wanted”, in 2012. John had recorded a demo of a version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” around that time, which would later find its way onto the album as a hidden track. The following year John worked out covers of “Let Snow”, “Winter Wonderland”, and a few others and around that time Burnie wrote a couple of originals. Year after year we added a little more and played a few more Christmas gigs.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Fun Christmas songs with a bit of a twist.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
There are a couple that come to mind: Nirvana - Bleach and Everclear - World of Noise. Both of these records have an energy that is contagious. I think these two records, and several others, are the reason we have the energy we do in our music today.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Of the videos we have filmed, “Empty” is our favorite. Our friend Lore made it for us using a bunch of random clips from live shows.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
We’re all dads, so we’re probably doing dad stuff–sporting events, music recitals, dance competitions.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
We suffer from nervous anticipation of playing, but once the first note is strummed from the stage we are taken to another dimension where nothing else exists but the music.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Dynoride began as an acoustic project in 2008 with two high school friends, John Taylor and Burnell Eckardt. Since then we've had 12 drummers. Our current drummer, Alex Triece, has lasted the longest but is on thin ice. Between the three current members we have fathered a total of 10 children and we have now officially solidified ourselves in the realm of “dad rock”.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
We all write and it tends to be collaborative. Most of the time we start with music first and then the words come.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Inspiration is all around us. Pain and suffering is a lot of what motivates us to perform. Our goal is to always leave the audience feeling better than they did prior to seeing us.
WHAT IS NEXT?
We are planning to take some time in 2023 to plan out a few larger production shows and write some new material. This will most likely mean that we’ll play fewer shows this year, but they will (hopefully) be even more fun and entertaining. Wish us luck!
