Embracing your authentic self - Woof keeps the alt-punk spirit alive

PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…

  • I’m WOOF. I’m an alternative punk artist based out of Chicago. I’m all about embracing your shadows and being your authentic self.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE

  • My new single is called Betrayal. The song dives into the intense emotions of trust and heartbreak. Inspired by personal experiences, it’s a journey through the pain and strength that comes with betrayal.

WHICH SONG WOULD YOU SAY SUMS UP YOUR SOUND THE BEST?

  • Crime. It’s a mix of a lot of my influences. It was the first song I made as WOOF as well. Atmospheric, Dark and Dreamy

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?

  • I was exposed to a lot of music at a young age. My mom used to work at BMG and would get CD’s two weeks before they came out so I grew up with a taste and ear. I’m thankful for how music has been an integral part of my life.

WHAT DOES TYPICAL WRITING AND RECORDING DAY LOOK LIKE?

  • I like to work at night. I find it to be the most freeing time for my mind and emotions. I love the seclusion aspect and how I can go from one to the other seamlessly. It makes me feel like a wizard haha.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR BAND NAME/ STAGE NAME?

WOOF stands for Wisdom Of One’s Frequencies. It’s also a play on my love for canines in general. Quite literally the saying of “In between the time of dog and wolf”.

WHAT HAS BEEN THAT HARDEST THING ABOUT YOUR MUSIC JOURNEY SO FAR?

  • Resources and collaboration. I have a tough time reaching out for help because I’ve been so accustomed to doing everything myself for so long. I’m at a point in my career where I’d like to evolve and grow with others and expand my skill set. Resources are huge too because it provides traction and can keep up momentum when you’re feeling lulls as an artist.

WHAT'S BEEN THE EASIEST?

  • Producing and mixing! I went to school for Recording Arts so that aspect of the journey has always been the most enjoyable for me. I love how I’m able to transmute my pain and sounds I hear in my head to something tangible. It’s all about the feeling for me.

WHAT WOULD YOU DOING IF YOU WEREN'T MAKING MUSIC?

  • Professional Dog Trainer

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

  • Pour into yourself before you pour into anyone else.

 WHAT'S NEXT?

  • Another single before the end of the year!
