FUN AND GAMES WITH TONIGHT'S HERO

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

ALEX: We met at the hand modeling agency. Tim was working on a shoot for cruelty-free balloons while I was there to promote a line of lotions made for unmarried cat owners. Tim asked if I play bass. I thought he was asking about baseball, which I played. I ended up showing up to band practice wearing my mitt and cleats!

We ended up writing an album and some singles that has a sort of Jimmy Eat World meets Arctic Monkeys feel. With the occasional Green Day and White Reaper mix. Happy melodies and melancholy lyrics.

Our baseball team went 0-18 that year.

TIM: I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when we first met. I remember; Alex wore grey, I wore blue.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

TIM: “Nothing New Under the Sun” is about the unrelenting nothingness of life

ALEX: I’ve been telling people it’s about friendship

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?

TIM: Being at the very edge of who you’re comfortable being and deciding whether or not you should take that final step

ALEX: I’m in it for the money.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

ALEX: Our latest single, “Nothing New Under the Sun” is about losing yourself one night at a time. Waking the next morning and having others write the narrative of the night prior. Reluctantly finding yourself the morning after having lost it. Sprinkle equal parts nostalgia and regret with just a dash of shame, and you’ve got “Nothing New”.

TIM: No

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

TIM: The Epitaph Records compilation “Punk-o-Rama Volume 7” introduced me to a bunch of bands that eventually introduced me to good music.

ALEX: After “The Black Parade” was released, I didn’t listen to anything else for almost a year. I became obsessed while simultaneously causing concern in my parents.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

ALEX: After we get a few million more streams, we’ll be able to fund our first music video. Until then, I’d say my favorite is “The Ghost of You” by My Chemical Romance.

TIM: Serious answer: Blind Melon’s “No Rain.” It’s got that sunshine & melancholy quality that I love, a good sense of humor, and a hopeful ending. Either that or blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again?”

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

ALEX: Practicing origami and painting ceramic eggs

TIM: y favorite hobby is placing an award winning novel on my chest as I scroll through Twitter.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

BOTH: Shot of NyQuil on ice with gin and some sprite

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

ALEX: We met back in high school. Tim’s parents had a strict no-band policy in the household. His brother wasn’t allowed to join a band until Tim did. So his brother started paying me to be in a band with him. I think they made a movie about it but changed a few of the details. Don’t tell Tim though, he doesn’t know about this.

TIM: we met back in high school, that much is true. But I actually paid my brother to pay Alex to be in a band with me, except I had him confused for someone who was much cooler. Don’t tell Alex. The movie he’s thinking of is “Apocalypse Now.”

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

ALEX: Tim is the songwriter. He sends me a demo then I add some minor chords. We ping pong the Logic file back and forth until we get tired of the track. Then send it off to someone else to mix it and make it sound coherent.

TIM: Some producer with computers fixes all my shitty tracks.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

ALEX: Drinking

TIM: Hangovers

WHAT IS NEXT?

ALEX: We have another single we’ve been working so hard on. We can’t wait for our friends and family to hear the first 30 seconds!

Baseball practice

TIM: I’m excited for our next single. It has bright music with good energy, and depressing lyrics. I like to live by the Brian Wilson method of sunshine and melancholy. Obviously it worked out great for him.
