Big fat guitars with big fat electronic beats
HI THERE THANKS FOR ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS FOR US.
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Vulgarithm is a one man team which brings big fat guitars with big fat electronic beats. Fusing 90s alternative dance music with huge guitars and melodies.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Current single out now is “2nd Wave Rave”. It sheds new light on our current situation in the world, and laughing at the absurdity of the whole thing. We can still dance though, yes we can.
This song comes off the EP “Share if you disagree” out Nov 20th. 2nd in a trilogy of Eps.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
How mad life can be, but it’s not all doom and gloom. I try and give myself freedom regarding subjects as life isn’t always about one thing. The single echo’s the album, something to dance to and also something to laugh at in these very serious times.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Relentless bombardment.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
“Pretty Hate Machine” by Nine Inch Nails. There have been so many great album by NIN alone, let alone other bands, but this particular album drove me down a new path for songwriting and what can be achieved through electronics. Also I’d broken my wrist and couldn’t play the guitar so was pretty depressed at the time.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
My favourite Vulgarithm video would be “The Vulgar Rhythm”. It’s such a cheesy video for such a ridiculous song.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Listening to music or teaching music. My whole life has been based on music and anything else I do is run of the mill stuff (eat, drink, see friends etc)
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
The worst moment for me is that last second before I start performing, but I ride the wave and everything works out. You can always focus on the lights, it drowns the audience out until you feel more confident, then focus back on the crowd again.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
I looked at myself and said “I need to do something different and exciting” and it all went from there.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
The music comes first for me, then the melody, then the lyrics. I’ve never been easy with my words in life so I can express myself better through music first. This makes the lyrical content easier to write.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Life, the worst of life and the best of life. Occasionally I’ll hear a song and think “I like what they did there” but I don’t write after that, I let it sit for a bit so an original thought crops up.
WHAT IS NEXT?
The 3rd of the EP series will be out sometime in 2021, but I will also continue sharing cover versions of Ibiza classics on my youtube channel
