I am VAYA. Started as a singer-composer I decided to explore instruments such as bass piano and guitar ( and other inexplicable things ). As a self-taught the last album sounds super experimental/animal/emotional. Even though I started Music I was 3 years old ( singing and music theory mainly) this last exploration drove me on path I was not expecting to take and left me a print as the only limit in music is the one you decide to put in place.
So now Music is more and more for me pure energy I do my best to translate it through different ways/waves without any kind of limits or shame about how to play something how to sing something to be as better as I can in shape with the essence/idea of it. I am focused on the intention more than the technique.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE
BRUTAL is a soulful project we recorded at Union Sound Company Toronto, mixed by Vance Powell ( Nashville), mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway and printed at Third Man Pressing, Detroit. I clearly put all my guts in it without any kind of filter and it is a huge highway full of emotions.
SEXUAL ( one of the album’s tracks) is an AWARD Winner of the Best Music Video at the Short Film Festival Montreal 2020. If they knew that everything started while I was cooking pancakes on Sunday: such a piece of cake.
WHICH SONG WOULD YOU SAY SUMS UP YOUR SOUND THE BEST?
All of them. My Soul is like an infinite Rainbow
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?
It is not something you get into it. It is something that runs days and nights into your blood and you can not live without it. It is hard for me to get some silent moments.
WHAT DOES TYPICAL WRITING AND RECORDING DAY LOOK LIKE?
They are all unique as each song is unique as well. Stay in tune with Universe, it has so much to tell!
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR STAGE NAME?
I received it as a whisper while waiting for composing a song on the piano. First Nation voices and rhythms I heard calling/singing this name. Very Spiritual and it will stay like that. It is my forever baptism.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST THING ABOUT YOUR MUSIC JOURNEY SO FAR?
Spreading the Love.
WHAT'S BEEN THE EASIEST?
Hugging people and thanking them for being there for sharing those precious moments. I love being on stage to spread emotions and especially Love.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?
Go with the Flow
WHAT'S NEXT?
That is an excellent question.
I will be honest with you today, I can’t see clearly the full map.
I had a relevant session with a healer and they said Tap the guitar, she has a voice . From there I decided to apply for guitar class at Toronto Royal Conservatory to develop some kind of technics. The universe sent me an amazing teacher-mentor. He watched my full last show in Japan, November 2022 for BRUTAL and first, he said Have you ever think about going into the metal with your powerful voice and sound?
And then (I thought) Let me meditate on what I can bring to you on the table.
So I will start to explore unexpected paths; such a gift! Such as prepared guitar, snare guitar and so much more: More experimental, teaching and challenges on my Music Journey; I love it!
I know that a new album Is coming; the Spirit of The Eagle symbol of Freedom; let’s see what he wants to tell.
And BRUTAL will be back on stage in November in Toronto in a very industrial and unique place. A new vibrating experience to spread the Love again and again
