PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Evolucija originated in Switzerland, and from the beginning, we have strived to be original. Our goal has always been to connect with our listeners and create a shared energy that we can all immerse ourselves in. We aim to explore and tell stories about human relationships, societal challenges, and love.
We take authenticity seriously and try to convey everything we feel and think through our music. Our musical vision is to contribute to the richness of the music world.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST ALBUM OR SINGLE
We are currently in negotiations for the release of our new album, and on October 6th, the first single from it will be released, titled "The Earth is Full of Rats." This is a special project for us because we have worked on it for a long time, especially during the period of humanity's greatest isolation and the recent disaster that befell us (COVID-19).
The album features 10 songs that we carefully selected to express specific themes or emotions that inspired us. We hope that our audience will enjoy listening to this material and find something they can relate to or that will inspire them to think positively. On October 6th, 2023, we will begin promoting the new album, and we can't wait to share it with everyone and receive the first reactions from our fans.
WHICH SONG WOULD YOU SAY SUMS UP YOUR SOUND THE BEST?
It's really difficult for me to pick a favorite song because each song, in my opinion, is special. Every band member has their favorite. Personally, I love the fast songs with
powerful guitar riffs, but I also adore our latest ballad. However, if I had to choose, it would be "The Earth is Full of Rats" and "Shame on You."
DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC IN A FEW WORDS.
Our music is inspired by various themes and emotions. Through our music, we express our feelings and emotions, whether it's love, sadness, or happiness. We also tackle social and political issues, sharing our perspectives on them.
Our goal is to reach as many listeners as possible and contribute to cultural and artistic development.
WHO HAVE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES BEEN?
I grew up in diverse surroundings when it comes to music, so I was exposed to many different types and genres of music
The bands that influenced me the most are Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kiss, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Nightwish.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?
Music has always been a magnet for me and an integral part of my life, even before I actively started pursuing it. I grew up in a family of musicians, so I was surrounded by instruments and music from a very young age. Music has the power to express emotions and convey messages in a unique and profound way.
I started with the violin and then moved on to playing the guitar, but the bass guitar is my greatest passion. I feel an immense strength and energy in the sound of the bass.
WHAT IS THE CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU WHEN MAKING MUSIC?
As musicians, our inspiration comes from various sources, often depending on our current emotions, which is reflected in our songs. In our music, we pour our personal experiences, emotions, thoughts, joys, sorrows, and challenges.
Society and social issues are also prevalent in our songs, such as social justice, environmental concerns, and equality. These are all topics that concern us deeply. We enjoy writing about things that impact us and that we believe are important for both us and our fans. Music allows us to express our ideas and perspectives in a way that can make others think and reflect.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE THE COOLEST COLLABORATION PROJECT BETWEEN YOU AND ANOTHER ARTIST?
For me, that would be an album where Zanil Zak Tataj (our guest on the song "The Earth is Full of Rats") sings alongside our singer Ilana on all the tracks. Their vocals complement each other very well, and Zak is certainly one of the best vocalists in our region and beyond. Having Zanil Zak Tataj as a guest on the new album sounds perfect.
PLEASE TELL US A RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I would like to highlight the encounter with Dora Pesh. I have always been a huge fan of hers, mesmerized by her immense energy. When we found out that we were going to perform with her and that I would personally meet her, I couldn't believe it. When we met at the airport, she showed her greatness and said to her band, "Hey guys, this is Evolucija." For me, that was a very memorable meeting with her and her entire band.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?
The best advice I've received has been from my grandfather, who was also a musician. "It's not our defeats that define us, but how we deal with them." "Don't wait to be happy to be grateful; be grateful, and you will be happy."
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I understand your perspective, and you're right that there are challenges in the music industry, especially for smaller bands. Promotion and getting their music out there can
indeed be quite difficult if they don't have the backing of major record labels. The industry often tends to revolve around established names and internal projects, making it challenging for emerging artists to break through.
Additionally, there can be significant pressure on artists to conform to industry trends, which can sometimes compromise their authenticity. These are real issues that many musicians face, and it's important to address them to create a more diverse and inclusive music landscape. While your individual opinion might not change the industry overnight, raising awareness about these challenges is a valuable step toward positive change.
