Q & A: RED MAKER TALK TO US ABOUT THEIR DEBUT ALBUM

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

We are Red Maker, an alternative indie band from Sioux Falls, SD. Haven’t been around for long but we’ve definitely made a lot of noise in our area in a short amount of time.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

We are just wrapping up our very first album now, finished recording and getting it mixed. Once we come up with a name and artwork it will be out before you know it.

It’s mainly filled with all of the singles we’ve been putting out now for a little over a year. All written, performed, and recorded by ourselves. We didn’t have overflowing bank accounts that were dying to be emptied out on a studio so we went the DIY route. Putting in the work and fighting thru the learning curve. But I think things like that tend to build passion for your project, and I believe it shows in our tracks.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?

We are really inspired by life itself. We talk a lot about the good and the bad of life, the beauty and the confusion, the victory and the struggle. Everything life brings your way we sing about it.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

It’s a diverse album for sure, in energy and sound and emotion. If you like high energy, we got it. Want chill? We got you covered baby! Only album you’ll need this year.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Man, too many to list. Too many decades, too many genres, too many amazing records to pick from.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

We’ve been talking about doing the whole music Video route but just haven’t come up with that million dollar idea. If we have a favorite, it’s probably just the opening of I’m Broken by Pantera. That Dimebag bird flip, in the beginning, gets us every time.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

If we’re not playing music together we’re drinking. And even while we’re playing music together it’s drinking. Sometimes we postpone practice just for beer runs.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

We’ve all been doing it for so long nerves don’t really occupy the mind. But on the rare off chances, it’s mainly running through all of your gear obsessively and if that doesn’t work…drinking

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

Sam and I (Morgan) used to jam a lot in high school. Lost contact after school and ran into each other at one of Slayers Final Campaign shows. His band had just broken up and I had just moved back. We started jamming and the now we’re here

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

We all write. Sometimes we bring in little parts or finished songs where everyone just has to learn what they’re playing. We operate by the “song daddy” rule. That’s where if you’re the person who brought in the idea then you are responsible for kind of guiding everyone to make the song good. So whether the song does well or horrible, it’s all on the song daddy to lead us to their vision.

WHAT IS NEXT?

Once the album is out then it’s boatloads of shows. We’re playing a huge festival in Sioux Falls called the Four Winds. If you’re in the area make sure to catch us there!
