Bringing nu metal back from the dead...it's Sleeping Around
PLEASE INTRODUCE THE BAND FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR MUSIC.
We’re Sleeping Around here to bring Nu-Metal back from the dead!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW VIDEO
'Cigarettes' convey a feeling many of us often become engulfed by, the notion of despair and utter loneliness. At the time I was living in New York City, heartbroken and deeply missing a past love, I began to self isolate and constantly chain smoke all while staring out the window of my small bedroom longing for her. I was always searching for her replacement which led me to operate on much lower frequencies instead of letting the past go and moving forward. However, the moment I stopped searching for new love and focused my energy on just being in love with my own self and being that sense of despair and loneliness slowly began to drift away just like the smoke emitting from the tip of a cigarette blowing away with the wind.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
AFI’s Decemberunderground for sure, I listened to that album front to back hundreds of times on my little portable cd player during road trips. Besides the beautiful musicality and storytelling, the album portrays it really was that one record I day dreamed for hours about becoming a rockstar.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Nothing comes to mind but my girlfriend just showed me the video to Mykki Blanco’s song Wavvy. Great video, it’s filmed in NYC where I used to live and is uber captivating with tons of different scenes. Mykki is such a diverse artist and it really shows in the video.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Trading stocks, I’m addicted haha.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
Xanax. Haha I’m taking the piss but for real I definitely do suffer from anxiety but I love performing live and once the set kicks off all worries evaporate.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
It was just a natural evolution of friends who loved music coming together and jamming for years, then one day saying “hey let's really go out and get this shit”.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
I suppose it’s me, I usually have an idea in my head and then I program that idea into Logic X with midi instruments. After that, I’ll write the lyrics and maybe a guitar part then send it off to Jaron to make another guitar track as well as a bass part.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Life, death, love, lust, passion, depression, anxiety, etc. Life is beautiful and If we take a moment to breathe in and be present in the moment we can find inspiration quite easily.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Write, record, film music video, and repeat haha. This pandemic has been a curse but a blessing in the fact that we have time to go full throttle into music.
