We chat to Jasper about the band's music and "heavy freaking rock!"
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Rough and ready heartfelt modern guitar rock is what The Last Element is known for.
The Last Element originates when we face the passing of one dearly loved, the hardship of a broken home or the breaking of hearts – it is the first spark, the first sense of emotion, a first feeling that evolves into a creative mind.
Bringing these elements together they find a way to grow - Broken hearts fit like pieces of puzzles and these pieces mend into one big heart.
We believe there are many like us, waiting to join our hearts.
Together we are stronger, together we are The Last Element.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
We just released our latest single "The Devil", a dark and gritty rock song about the negative voice in our heads, the struggle between the good and the bad in our lives and how sometimes loneliness can affect and infect us. We can be our own worst enemies, critical and negative having a hard time seeing the good. Not only is "The Devil" a song about individual feelings but also a reflection of society and the news, always regurgitating the negative events in the world and shaping our reality. So far we’ve gotten tremendous feedback, Spotify placed the song in 2 editorial playlists radio stations all over the world are playing our single and we just feel humbled!
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
That would be a reflection of my personal well being I always write about things that play a role in my life and shape me to who I am. At times I really struggle with staying positive, growing up I often heard that what I did wasn’t good enough, being compared to others and feeling like coming short. The song in that way is very negative, but I use it to give certain thoughts and feelings a place, leaving more room to focus on the positive. Also in the song there is a twist in the lyrics to remember the good things, fighting for the positive in life, this is a reminder to myself to never let go of all the good things in life.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Heavy freaking rock!
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
That would be different for each member, choosing one album is impossible. Older bands/artist like Queen and Michael Jackson has been a big influence. In our genre, it has been bands like Linkin Park or Bring Me The Horizon. For instance, That’s the spirit has been such an amazing album we all loved listening to.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Greatest live vid on earth
Na that question is to difficult, we never really watch the clips, we listen to the music, that’s what we’re in this for.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
A lot of different things, some of us do a lot of sports, stuff like kitesurfing, kickboxing, snowboarding. Others are big film fanatics and all of us find our way in love and relationships, getting peace and tranquillity that way.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
We all have that lively feeling when getting ready for a show, butterflies you could call them. Nervous would not be the word, when we are getting ready we know we will do something we are good at! It’s just a blast, something we love doing. After playing 2 songs everything becomes more serene and it’s just a current you get caught in, everything just goes.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Nick, Jan and Robert have played together for approximately 6 years before they formed The Last Element with Jasper and Noah.
Each of us had experience with other bands and projects. Jan and Robert have the most experience with touring, recording bands and the music business, while Noah, Jasper and Nick make sure there is a good balance for the new, now and the current business. Together we make a great team. When we started making music together we glued together quickly and created our own signature in songs and sound. We started practising for live sets, did gigs and recorded a lot of songs!
Without a doubt, for all of us, this is the best line-up we’ve ever been in.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
The creative process of the songs lies within the hands of Jan, Noah and Jasper. Mostly Jan and Noah write the instrumental parts and Jasper writes the lyrics and vocal melodies. However sometimes they all sit together and just jam a little, or even Jasper comes up with some guitar parts from time to time. There are no limits, we just go with what feels good and then keep polishing it until we have something we love.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Life! Yeah that’s a bit lame, but we all write about what we feel, instrumentals are being made with certain vibes and feelings in mind, I write lyrics with certain passages of my life in mind. Afterwards, we always try to convey a message and share a certain mindset with people listening to our music. Furthermore, the people we love and the good things in life really inspire us, it just gives us strength and bright light within our lives.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Oh that’s exciting, we hope a lot, for sure we have a lot of plans: first of a new single that will showcase our new and improved sound. We are working hard every day to get our mixes top notch, to be able to compete with the best. Then each time new albums are released by the big guys, they set the bar higher and higher. But we work hard to keep up with that bar and hopefully pass it one day. Furthermore, we are working hard on improving our visual image getting everything more and more in line with the music!
