Q & A: THE TELLING

Introducing rock band The Telling

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hi, my name is Tom and I am the Lead Guitarist for The Telling.

I have always been on music scenes since I was a kid performing with cover bands or original bands... playing keyboards, drums but mainly guitar.

The guitar is my instrument, and although I had a full-time job as Cabin Crew, I always found the time to rehearse and perform with my several bands during these years.

I joined The Telling last summer and because of the Pandemic, we only had one gig since then.

When I heard they were looking for a guitar player I applied because I really liked the sound of the band.

I have also worked on different projects with both Colm (the Keyboard player) and Simone (the bass player) so we got to know each other quite well, but, once I got in the room with those guys, man, I felt pure energy in the room and it was a perfect mixture of which I gladly fit in.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

I can tell you about our upcoming single called "Breaking Me"

It's a work in progress, currently in pre-production and editing, but it's coming together quite nice though...

This is the first song I am working on it since I joined The Telling and it's a perfect match.

It totally matches my style. You know a slow ballad with a superb piano theme and a catchy sweet melody that resolves in a powerful vocal crescendo with a full band eruption giving me the chance to let ring some distorted chords just before launching into a killer solo.

You'll see...

WHAT INSPIRED THE SINGLE?

When I first heard the song, I thought it was the most beautiful melody I ever heard. Linda's voice was perfectly sweet and powerful at the same time.

I was asked to develop the guitar part and I literally loved the idea of working on it...couldn't wait...

the more I was listening to it the more ideas I had in mind.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE SINGLE IN A FEW WORDS?

Breaking me is a Rock Ballad and it's all about Love, Struggle and personal renaissance served on a succulent Rockish plate.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Well, I was a 7-year-old kid when I first met music, it was an Eric Clapton old audiocassette that my father gave me (money and cigarette 1983) and it was my real treasure...

I kept listening to it over and over but was only when I heard for the first time "Appetite for the Destruction" album by Guns and Roses, that I realised I want to become one of them.

That sound dragged me into the hard rock universe moulding deeply my musical core and it's still there after so many years, a lot of influences past by and different genres explored but hard rock it's my inner essence.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

One of the coolest videos of all the times that kept me glued to the tv was "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

that song is pure genius, the melody, the choreography and the fine music arrangements.

It brought together two of my true passions, Music and Horror movies.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

Well, that's hard. Most of my time is clocked by playing or listening to music, but I also enjoy going running around my home town or watching movies at home.

I love messing up with my kids making my wife go crazy and try cooking Italian and Irish recipes.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

Honestly, not at all... my last live concert was back in 2014 in Rome with my other band.

After that, I only made some recording works or jam with friends but not live events.

I crave for stage, I know it sounds like a cliché but the energy you exchange with your fellow musicians and the audience is truly something magic.

I can't really say that I am a hundred per cent stress-free thought, one of my greatest worries when on stage is that some of my gears might get faulty or break up in the middle of the show and oblige us to cancel the event.

That's why I like to go extra ready, I always cross-check all the equipment and I always have spare stuff with me or tools to fix things ... just in case...

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

The band was formed from the idea of the Keyboard and former guitar player. They had interesting stuff going on and decided to go full speed and start searching for other band members.

Although I actively participated at the beginning of the first Line up of the band, I only came aboard this project after a while substituting the first guitar player.

HOW DO YOU WRITE?

It's a total brainstorm, where ideas can arrive from any side, mostly everyone takes care of the own instruments and Linda of the lyrics but we are very wide open and cooperative with each other.

Good vibes only it's a way of life for us.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Literally everything...

Everything that surrounds me, music, movies, life but mostly my feelings...

I love to think that my music is the extension of my heart that flows gently through my finger while I strum my guitar.

WHAT IS NEXT?

Who can tell... as soon the situation allows it we will be hitting the road again because this is what we love, playing our musing live.

You will be hearing from us, that's a promise!
