We chat with the metalcore band about their new EP and single
HI THERE THANKS FOR ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS FOR US.
Of course. Thank you for having us. To pre-face this interview, Josey (guitarist/vocalist) is answering the questions.
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
The metalcore outfit based out of Indiana, Chasing Apparitions, released their debut EP, entitled "The Hedonist", back in 2016 gathering over 30,000 streams worldwide.
After taking a brief hiatus, Chasing Apparitions is back with a new line-up.
Featuring Josey Stines & Jacob Ortengren on instrumentals with Justin Stubbs on vocals, Chasing Apparitions recorded "Am I Worth Saving?" with Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios.
Throughout "Am I Worth Saving?" Chasing Apparitions brings a breath of fresh air to the genre with hard-hitting riffs & emotional lyrics that make you question your very existence.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Our new single is called “As Above, So Below”. This is the first single off of our new EP titled “Am I Worth Saving?”. We felt as though this was a good middle ground of what people could expect on the EP.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
“As Above, So Below” is written about poverty. Living paycheck to paycheck or just being homeless. I feel that not enough is done for the people that are struggling. I also feel that most people that are better off look down on people who struggle.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Heavy. Thought-provoking.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
Stand Up & Scream by Asking Alexandria. That album was the album that made me decide to pursue music & to actually form a band.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
I REALLY love the music video for “Akudama” by Alpha Wolf. I’d love to do something similar to that for CA.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Playing Apex Legends or making videos for my YouTube Channel. I really want to pursue something in video/audio.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
When I first started playing shows I was always nervous. Nowadays I just kinda lose myself in the music. I just try to have fun on stage & I do my best to get crazy to get a reaction from the crowd.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Chasing Apparitions was a solo project initially, but as time went on I realized that I couldn’t do some of the things I wanted to do without other people’s help. I met Jacob on Facebook & Justin was introduced to me through my producer Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios. I just clicked with both of
them & we crushed an EP.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
Typically I will begin writing a verse or a riff or a chord progression, then I will send the idea to Jacob & he adds his own flair & then we just send the file back & forth until we’re pleased with it. Once the instrumental is done I’ll hit up Justin & I’ll sit down & talk to him about the direction I’d like to go lyrically & we’ll talk about what fits & what doesn’t & we just send the song back & forth until we’re both pleased with it.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Lyrically - Just personal struggles. Depression. Dealing with the fact that I’m slowly dying. Existential crisis. Drinking. Realizing that life doesn’t have any meaning. I went through an extremely dark time in my life & I’m just working towards looking for the brighter things. Music is my outlet. Musically - Thousand Below. Bad Omens. Born of Osiris. Wage War. Dayseeker.
WHAT IS NEXT?
As of right now Chasing Apparitions has another single titled “L’appel Du Vide” being released on 8.7.2020. The EP “Am I Worth Saving?” will drop shortly after, but you’ll need to stay up to date on our socials to know when.
