Groove rock band Stone Sea take us inside the Mankind Maze
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
We are Stone Sea, we’re a groovy three-piece alternative rock band based in Dublin, Ireland, with a mix of Irish and Brazilian members. Even though we are a rock band, we like to experiment with other sounds and incorporate them into our music, such as stoner rock or even Bossa Nova.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM?
Our most recent release is our EP, ‘Mankind Maze’ which we released late last year. This EP showcases a range of different sounds that Stone Sea covers, from groovy overdriven riffs, to melodic, lysergic songs. ‘Mankind Maze’ really shows off what Stone Sea is capable of.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM?
We are inspired by a lot of different things. What we take our main inspiration from is the actions and behavior of human beings and the way they live. All emotions from love to hate, rage to apathy, and everything in between.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Diverse, Groovy, Heavy. There are so many different ways to describe ‘Mankind Maze’, take a listen and decide for yourself how it sounds!
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
There are so many albums that I could name here, it’s so hard to choose just one! However, I think I have to go with ‘Paranoid’ by Black Sabbath. That album is just a masterpiece. Sabbath really paved the way for heavy music, and decades later they’re still an inspiration to so many bands across the globe, us included!
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
There are so any incredible music videos out there, but I think the title of ‘Greatest Music Video of All Time’ definitely has to go to ‘Sledgehammer’ by Peter Gabriel. If for some reason you haven’t seen that video, go look it up right now. We would love to have the resources to do something that ambitious with a video of ours. Visually, it is absolutely perfect.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
We’re all good friends as well as bandmates, so when we’re not rehearsing or writing songs, we’re meeting for food or a pool hall (usually getting our asses handed to us by our drummer Connor)!
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
Honestly, none of us really suffer from nerves when we’re about to perform, we’re all really confident in ourselves as a band, we put a lot of work into making sure our performances are perfect, and we
always prepare for the possibility of something going wrong. As long as you’re prepared and well-rehearsed, you’ll fell more at ease.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
The band was formed by our vocalist/guitarist Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso in Sao Paulo Brazil in 2015. He recorded the album ‘Origins’ himself, and soon after that he moved to Ireland, where Elvis, accompanied by a new drummer and bassist, recorded ‘Vaporizer’ and ‘Mankind Maze’. The band underwent a lineup change which saw the introduction of drummer Connor Middleton and bassist Jonathan Parminter.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
Elvis is our key songwriter, but every song has input and ideas from every member. We all collaborate and create new songs that have our own unique sound.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
We’re inspired by the emotions and behaviors of human beings, how we live together in society, how we react and feel about different things that happen or change in our lives.
WHAT IS NEXT?
We’re currently working on a new album, so once things can return to some form of normality, we’re gonna head straight into the studio to record our new music. We’re so excited to get to record our new music. You’ve heard of homesick, I think we are studio-sick!
