BODY COUNT releases their powerful rendition of 'Comfortably Numb' featuring David Gilmour—a fresh take on the classic Pink Floyd track that explores themes of detachment and introspection. Gilmour's seminal guitar work adds a haunting, authentic touch, seamlessly blending with BODY COUNT's signature intensity and Ice’s profound new lyrics, making the track a fusion of rock history and raw, modern energy. BODY COUNT has also revealed the release date for their new album, Merciless, set to drop on 22nd November via Century Media.
On the new single, frontman Ice-T explains:
"For me, 'Comfortably Numb', is an introspective song—it's me acknowledging that I'm older now. I'm telling the younger generation, you've got two choices: you can keep the fire burning or you can give up. It's me trying to make sense of what's happening, but also pointing out that we're all in a place where we don’t have to face reality. We've got flat-screen TVs and popcorn, and we can just sit back and watch the chaos of the world like it’s a TV show. It doesn’t feel real until it shows up at your door. I’m a little numb, too—we all are.”
David Gilmour comments:
“BODY COUNT's version of 'Comfortably Numb' is quite radical, but the words really struck me. It astonishes me that a tune I wrote almost 50 years ago is back with this great new approach. They've made it relevant again. The initial contact from Ice-T was for permission to use the song, but I thought I might offer to play on it as well. I like the new lyrics, they're talking about the world we’re living in now, which is quite scary. Ice-T and BODY COUNT played in London recently, sadly I couldn't make it, but if another opportunity came up to play with them, I'd jump at it.”
Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd has just unveiled his latest album, Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 2, out now via Mascot/Provogue Records. This release marks the culmination of a creative journey that began with last year’s Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 1, delivering a double-album experience that pushes the boundaries of modern blues-rock while staying true to its roots.
Highlighting the new album is the infectious single “Never Made It To Memphis” is a driving, soul-infused track that comes with a captivating lyric video. It tells a lighthearted tale of a man on a whirlwind pursuit of love across the States, full of twists and unexpected detours. Shepherd explains, “It’s a pursuit situation that never works out. Every turn the guy takes, nothing pans out exactly the way he thinks it’s going to. But in the end, he winds up with the girl, so everything is OK, regardless of all the wrong turns in the journey.”
Blending his blues-rock roots with an uptempo groove, Shepherd crafts a narrative that resonates with humor and soul. The song captures the spirit of classic rock ‘n’ roll, where every misstep leads to a new adventure. Its lyrics paint a vivid picture of the journey, describing a “hellbent mission” with the protagonist as a “black sheep child raised on rock and roll.” Despite never quite reaching his intended destinations—whether it’s Memphis, Detroit, or Austin—he ultimately finds what he’s been chasing: “I never made it to Memphis, but girl, I made it to you.”
Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 2 serves as a continuation of the sonic exploration Shepherd embarked upon with Vol. 1, featuring songs written and crafted at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This album is filled with standout tracks like the brooding “Long Way Down” and the introspective “My Guitar Is Crying,” showcasing the diverse moods and textures that define Shepherd’s sound.
Speaking about the two-part project, Shepherd notes, “These are two unique albums that stand on their own, but together, they make for such a compelling package. We had creative momentum on our side, so we just wanted to keep it rolling.”
The tracklist of Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 2 roars to life with the purposeful stomp of “I Got A Woman” and continues through a captivating blend of rock, blues, and soul, culminating in tracks like “Pressure” and the vibrant cover of ZZ Top’s “She Loves My Automobile.”
Kenny Wayne Shepherd continues his journey across the country with a packed tour schedule, including his participation in the Experience Hendrix Tour. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.kennywayneshepherd.net.
Red Giant are pleased to announce “Why?” the second single taken from their highly anticipated eponymous debut album. The single is released Friday September 20th and is available on all streaming platforms .
Released Friday 18 October, pre-order the album from www.redgiantofficial.com/the-rg-shop.
Red Giant is the offshoot of YouTube presenter and guitar prodigy, Dave Simpson (he’s amassed over 136,000 YouTube followers due to his guitar tutorials and gear demos).
“Why?” is, in Dave’s opinion his most meaningful song to date. Its Dave’s painful journey through childhood trauma brought about by a failing education system that treats the victims of bullying as being solely responsible for their own suffering.
“Why?” is an uncompromisingly candid and brutally honest song with the verses communicating the feelings of abject despair and dejection that resolve into the songs powerful and heart-breaking chorus – a desperate cry for help and a plea for the torment to stop and to be left alone.
Dave hopes many people who have had similar experiences may find comfort in this song and realize that they are not alone, and it wasn’t their fault.
