This week we've got a cool mix of rock and indie for you, enjoy!
Following on from their electrifying performances at Download Festival in the UK and Vainstream Rockfest in Germany, Calva Louise have revealed a brand new video for recently released single “La Corriente,” out now on Mascot Records.
Talking about the music video the band say, "'La Corriente' is indirectly part of the sequel of 'Under The Skin', as the beginning of the prequel takes place in 1994: the day a young Jonnie had to agree to become an apprentice to a commander coming from the Fractalworld. 'La Corriente' takes place at the show where his fate is sealed, setting the tone of the story that will be unfolding in the next video. We are very grateful to everyone who took part in the video, especially Sunbird Records bar in Darwen that allowed us to shoot those two music videos in 4 days at their venue. It was a hard but fulfilling experience especially for Jess as she is directing and editing the videos."
They start their headline tour of the UK this week, beginning on 4 July at the Bodega, Nottingham and calls through Leeds (The Key Club), Glasgow (King Tut's), Manchester (Deaf Institute), Birmingham (Asylum 2) and finishing at Omeara, London on 11 July. They will also be playing 2000Trees (UK) and Burn It Down Festival (UK). Tickets are available HERE.
As they prepare to hit the road again, they say, "We are excited for the tour as we’ll be playing with friends and bands that we love in venues that are so important for bands like us, without them we would never have the opportunities we’ve had since coming to the UK, immigrating to a country where you don’t know anyone can be really challenging, especially trying to break into an industry that we admire but that we didn’t have any connections to, without grassroots venues we wouldn’t be touring!"
The single has already picked up support from BBC Radio 1. “'La Corriente' is about escaping prefabricated opinions and judgments, affecting our perception of self,” Jess Allanic explains. Translated to “the current”, in Spanish it can mean the river current but also figuratively it can mean following someone’s flow. Allanic adds, “By trying to be agreeable and trying to fit in, I let someone’s current drag me away from my own self in the past, undermining my opinions and eventually feeling trapped in expressing myself. This song for me is regaining that power back.”
They recently finished a 5-week tour of the US with Vukovi as well as playing Sonic Temple and Welcome To Rockville festivals in the US. Talking about the tour the band say, “Touring with Vukovi was one of the best experiences we’ve had! They are a wonderful band and amazing people! We also got to see so many great places and meet wonderful new people who travelled all over the US to come to the shows! We had a great time and hope we get to do it again soon!”
They recently released their explosive single Under The Skin, which was picked up by BBC Radio 1’s Introducing Rock Show, Future Alternative and Future Artist’s shows as well as playlisted at Kerrang Radio. They have also previously picked up support from BBC Radio 1's Alyx Holcombe, 6 Music, and Radio X, Metal Hammer and Rock Sound.
Under the Skin was co-written by Allanic and Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen and is a mesmerising blend of raging metal riffs, swirling electronica, and Allanic's extraordinary ability to flit between ethereal vocals and demonic howls. It swoons in and out of a stunning narrative, with melodic twists along the way that are penetrated by an attack of hypnotic aggression. The song and video follows a complex Sci-Fi narrative and is the introduction of a conceptual storyline about the characters and their counterparts, The video is an incredible feast for the eye and was directed and edited with VFX by Allanic.
The British based band is truly International with its members hailing from across the globe and has been ripping through the U.K. underground for the past few years, driven by the creative vision of Venezuelan born Jess Allanic (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard) along with French born Alizon Taho (Bass/Backing Vocals - France) and New Zealander Ben Parker (Drums/Backing Vocals).
Calva Louise are a captivating live band that has already grabbed the attention of the US as well as the UK after their recent breathtaking performances. Brace yourself for 2024, the year of Calva Louise.

Jake Bugg today releases his superb new offering ‘All Kinds Of People’ - taken from his forthcoming sixth album A Modern Day Distraction, out September 20th on RCA Records.
A Clash and Jam-indebted mod rock burst, Jake’s new single addresses the need to open up and talk about the everyday hardships of ordinary people’s lives. “We all have our struggles,” says Jake. “In British culture, we don’t really talk to anyone about that. You need to talk about these things with the people you love. We have to try and help each other, because there’s not much help out there.” Listen to ‘All Kinds Of People’ HERE & watch the Michael Holyk-directed video, shot in Nottingham, HERE.
Produced by Metrophonic at Metrophonic Studios in London, Jake returns to his roots on the rock-driven A Modern Day Distraction – a record that turns up the noise while shining a light on the injustice he’s seen dealt to the family and friends he grew up with. Fiery and engaged, the record was born out of a frustration of societal inequality. Bugg found that a time had come when he just couldn’t look away. “People might say ‘What do you know?’ or ‘Just stick to music’. I’ve got a bit of money, but we all know the people this affects. I was just writing it because it was the way I felt. It pisses me off – especially in a country like ours where we have the means and funds to take care of the people suffering the most, but we choose not to.”
Now 12 years and six albums since he emerged with his streetwise and spritely, Mercury-nominated, chart-topping, self-titled debut, one might forget he was just 18 at the time. He’s put in the hours and achieved so much, but he’s only 30 and still seeing the front rows of his shows getting younger.
With a string of shows already happening this summer, Jake will return to the road in November this year for a run of UK and EU dates, including a date at London’s Roundhouse on November 19th. Tickets on sale HERE.

Forged in slate and small town angst in the foothills of Eryri, North Wales, by brothers Liam and Siôn Rickard, Lo-fi Jones enjoy igniting audiences with eclectic folk/indie/pop. Part of a growing wave of artists taking Welsh language music and culture beyond Wales's borders.
Based in Machynlleth, the line-up is completed by Nicaraguan multi-instrumentalist Rolando Bertrand and the versatile 'Badger' Brown. High-energy, unpredictable, infused with surreal humour, Lo-fi Jones fuse contemporary and traditional styles, exploring themes both personal and global.
The award-winning Welsh indie-folk band are now returning for 2024 with their new single, Bad Technology, which will be the title track off their forthcoming EP of the same title.
Bad Technology is a cry of frustration and catharsis for the millions of people who feel modern technology may be conspiring against them. A comic, dark and bilingual exploration of our relationship with technology, the grungy feel of this track is in contrast to the folkier sound of the band’s debut EP Llanast yn y Llofft, and introduces a humour that could be compared to Flight of the Concords.
The track is joyfully accompanied by Trigger Happy Creative, a Welsh production team who have created content for artists such as Panic Shack, Mali Haf, and Wrkhouse.
Bad Technology is out now.
The EP drops Friday 19th July.
