This week's round-up: New music from Maetteo Mancuso, Marcus Trummer and Carpenter Brut

Some slick guitar work, a new blues rock groove and a twist on an 80s classic

Guitar virtuoso Matteo Mancuso reveals his new song, "Paul Position", in honour of another guitar great, Paul Gilbert. You can stream the songs and watch the video here.

Talking about the song, the Sicilian guitarist says, "I wrote it some days after receiving this wonderful Baritone Guitar from Bacci. If you are wondering why it's called "Paul Position," it's because I was inspired by one of my favourite players, Mr. Paul Gilbert! You may recognize some of his signature licks in the solo section." Stefano India (Bass) and Giuseppe Bruno (Drums) also feature on the song.

Mancuso has become the hottest guitarist on the planet following the release of his debut album, 2023s 'The Journey' which featured the singles "Samba Party," which channels the excitement and jubilation of Rio de Janeiro during carnival – but the song itself is anything but samba. Also, "Silk Road, which was dedicated to his hometown Palermo and his Arab-Norman roots and was the follow-up to the album's lead single "Drop D,"

The YouTube sensation has already adorned the front cover of magazines such as Guitar Techniques, which called him "The Hottest Guitarist on the Planet ", and Total Guitar, which hailed him as the "World's Hottest Virtuoso." He has picked up plaudits from some of the world's most iconic, ground-breaking players who are declaring Matteo as a force to be reckoned with, from Dweezil Zappa to Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai to Al Di Meola and Tosin Abasi.

In January, he completed a sold-out tour of the US. He has recently opened for the legendary Marcus Miller and performed with Tommy Emmanuel in Palermo. He's shared the stage with Al Di Meola on classical guitar at the closing night of the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival, played at the Lugano Jazz Festival in Switzerland as a guest with prog-rockers PFM, and given an incredible performance at the New Ross Guitar Festival in Ireland.

Canadian blues, soul, and rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Marcus Trummer is pleased to announce his new upbeat, groove-driven single “Let You Down” released by Gypsy Soul Records on Friday, July 26th.

“Let You Down” is the first single taken from Trummer’s debut album to be released in November.

Led by the infectious bass playing of Stacey Shopsowitz, “Let You Down” is peppered with Trummer’s tasteful guitar licks. The addition of catchy horn arrangements makes the song fit in perfectly alongside other classic soul hits. It’s a danceable, feel-good tune perfect for the summertime.

Although written from the perspective of a relationship, the lyrics can also be interpreted as an assurance to listeners that Marcus Trummer is here to stay. The main hook “I won’t let you down as long as the world is turning ‘round,” shines a light on Trummer’s mentality as a young and ambitious artist, eager to prove himself.

If “Let You Down” is any indication of what’s to come, Marcus Trummer is a fascinating artist to keep on your radar as he prepares to share more singles in the coming months.

A young blood with an old soul, Marcus Trummer marries modern sensibilities with tradition in his distinctive style that encompasses blues, soul, and rock. Dubbed “a precocious guitarist whose vocals possess a wise-beyond-his-years weariness” by the Calgary Herald, the Calgary-born artist is already earning critical acclaim and recognition.

In September 2019, Trummer was the recipient of the “Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award” at Calgary’s YYC Music Awards. In 2022, he won “Blues Recording of the Year” at Calgary’s YYC Music Awards.

In 2022, Trummer snagged a nomination for “New Artist of the Year” at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto. The following year, he travelled to Colorado to perform as a finalist in the 2023 Telluride Blues Challenge, which he would go on to win.

Marcus Trummer’s music draws inspiration from the timeless sounds of the 60s and 70s. With his warm and emotive vocals, Trummer pays respect to classic soul singers like Bill Withers and Al Green.

His expressive guitar work channels the impassioned approach of players like B.B. King and

Jimi Hendrix. Packed with raw emotion and honesty, Trummer’s songwriting is not to be

overlooked. His thoughtful lyrics examine universal subjects of love and coming of age,

unpacking experiences that resonate with all listeners.

French synthwave artist, CARPENTER BRUT is the latest artist to add his take on a classic track for the official soundtrack to Sumerian Comics' American Psycho comic book series. Enlisting the vocal talents of Ulver's Krystoffer Rygg, CARPENTER BRUT presents his cover of the Billy Idol classic, 'Eyes Without A Face'. The track is available to stream on your platform of choice now.

Speaking on his fresh take on this 80s classic, CARPENTER BRUT shares:

"I wanted to do a cover that was a bit different from the usual, slower than what I'm used to, and 'Eyes Without a Face' was an obvious choice for me. I thought Kris from Ulver would be the perfect match for the vocals. It turned out to be one of his favorite songs. So it was a sign to do this cover. We're very proud of the result."

Nathan Yocum, President of Sumerian Comics , adds:

“Carpenter Brut and KrystofFer Rygg from Ulver bring a dark, electrifying twist to Billy Idol's classic 'Eyes Without a Face,' perfectly complementing the haunting themes of our American Psycho comic book series. From one musician that’s the pinnacle of Darksynth collaborating with a legendary Norwegian vocalist, this track has it all!”

CARPENTER BRUT & KRISTOFFER RYGG - 'Eyes Without a Face'

The American Psycho comic book series by Sumerian Comics is a bold reimagining of Patrick Bateman’s notorious saga. The five-issue series delves into a dual storyline format; one tracing the chilling exploits of Bateman, and the other introducing a contemporary narrative featuring Charlene Carruthers—a social media-savvy millennial whose descent into violence mirrors the chilling escalation of her predecessor. This innovative take reinterprets the iconic tale with a story written byMichael Calero (Quested), vivid artwork by Piotr Kowalski (The Witcher, Bloodborne, Sex) and striking colors by Brad Simpson (Kong of Skull Island, Stray Dogs, Blade Runner Origins).

Today's release joins previously released tracks from the likes of Ice Nine Kills (ft. Reel Big Fish), who tackled the Katrina and The Waves smash hit, 'Walking On Sunshine', Puscifer, who recorded a brand new, original single, 'The Algorithm' for the comic book series, Unlike Pluto who covered Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams', Perturbator, who covered 'Dangerous' by Depeche Mode and Ramsey, who covered Leadbelly's 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night'. Between them, the previously released tracks have racked up over 677,000 streams with current sales for the comic book series topping 80,000 units.

Fans of the American Psycho franchise can look forward to more from the accompanying soundtrack for the comic book series that perfectly complements the visual frenzy and deepens the narrative's impact, making each issue a multifaceted experience of sight and sound. Head to the Sumerian Comics website for more information and to order your copies of American Psycho.
