This week's round-up: New music from Scarlet Rebels, Larkin Poe and Steve Louw

Scarlet Rebels are thrilled to announce the release of their latest single and video, "It Was Beautiful," from their new album, 'Where The Colours Meet,' which is set for release on August 16, 2024 via Earache Records.

Wayne Doyle, the band's dynamic frontman, shares his insights on the new track 'It Was Beautiful’ is, in my opinion, one of the best songs I've written. We captured the essence and the feel of what I was trying to write about and the story I was trying to tell. That yearning for a time that's past, not knowing at the time how good you had it until it's passed and all you have left is the memories.

The accompanying video for "It Was Beautiful" breaks new ground for the band. Doyle explains, We wanted to make a video for the song that was completely different to anything we've done before… We show a visual of what the song speaks of, so having all of the physical possessions and items being removed until I was alone on a couch, not having any belongings and just watching time drift away… Time is the most precious thing in the world as, once you've spent it, you can't get it back.”

'Where The Colours Meet' represents a bold evolution in Scarlet Rebels' sound. Early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with Powerplay Magazine awarding the album a perfect 10/10, stating, "Scarlet Rebels have just reinvented themselves and ascended to another level."

The band has released several notable tracks so far. "Secret Drug" was voted Classic Rock Track of the Week, while "Grace" received a 5/5 from Planet Mosh. "Divide and Conquer" was praised by Metal Planet Music as “the perfect soundtrack to a righteous revolution, this is rock ‘n’ roll to bring down dictatorships.” Most recently, their single "Streets Of Fire" was played on BBC Radio 2's The Rock Show with Johnnie Walker.

Doyle reflects on the album's title and themes: “The lyric in “It Was Beautiful”, 'where all the different colours meet', summed up this record for me. It’s this melting pot of different themes and topics as well as the different sonic elements within the record that made the title fitting.”

'Where The Colours Meet' will be available in several exclusive formats, including limited edition vinyl, signed CDs, and special collector's bundles. The signed splatter vinyl is now sold out.

Larkin Poe – the GRAMMY Award-winning duo of Georgia-bred, Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell – continue what is proving a milestone year with the jubilant new single, 'Bluephoria,' available now via their own Tricki-Woo Records. An official music video – filmed in The Blue Room at Nashville, TN’s Third Man Records – premieres today.

“Once upon a time: we caught a case of the blues so deep and all-encompassing that it launched us on a euphoric exploration,” say Larkin Poe. “‘Bluephoria’ is a rock ’n’ roll rumination on the duality of the human experience; deep down in the quietest place where the bitter and the sweet twine together, and suffering/joy are galvanized into meaning. Take special note of the second verse which was inspired by the words of legendary Memphis bluesman Furry Lewis, who is quoted as having said: ‘Now I know I ain’t a star, but I sure might be a moon.’”

2024 got off to a triumphant start for Larkin Poe, beginning with their first career GRAMMY Award, winning “Best Contemporary Blues Album” for 2022’s critically acclaimed sixth studio album, Blood Harmony. Additional accolades followed, including a prestigious Americana Music Honors & Awards nomination for “Duo/Group of the Year.”

Long praised as one of hardest touring acts on the road today, Larkin Poe will celebrate their landmark year with a truly epic live schedule that includes top-billed festival appearances around the world, US runs with Slash’s all-star S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival and KALEO’s Payback Tour 2024, and more. Highlights includes unforgettable double bills with Lenny Kravitz at Montreux, Switzerland’s famed Montreux Jazz Festival (July 16), Rival Sons at Bonn, Germany’s Kunst!Rasen Bonn (July 17) and Chris Isaak at Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, France’s Guitare En Scene (July 19), plus eagerly awaited performances at Maidstone, UK’s Maid of Stone Festival (July 21), Cambridge, UK’s Cambridge Folk Festival (July 27), Park City, UT’s Park City Song Summit (August 16), Asbury Park, NJ’s Sea.Hear.Now Festival (September 15), Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond (September 22), Ocean City, MD’s Oceans Calling (September 27), and Melissa Etheridge’s Moon Crush “The Sea & ME” in Miramar Beach, FL (May 7, 2025).
