WE TALK DARK NORDIC GROOVES WITH INSAMMER

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

InSammer: Hi, everyone, we are InSammer, an alternative rock band from Sweden. We are combining dark, pulsating Nordic grooves with Eastern European lyricism and melodic romanticism. Our live shows throb with emotional energy; the vocal lines range from a whisper to a full-throated growl, melding with the instruments as verses explode into churning, hypnotic choruses and pounding, crowd-mesmerizing riffs. We play a heavy mixture of alternative rock and nu metal, which evokes the shifting musical styles.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

InSammer: Black Art is our latest album and it’s a cherished release for us. We spend a pandemic 2021 year in the studio and put many creative ideas into Black Art. We wrote many good riffs but took only several and made 11 tracks of total guitar and drums madness, filled with moments of relentless energy throwing back to our punk and rock roots to visionary moments of modern alternative. We satisfied with this album a lot.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

InSammer: Our third album ‘Black Art’ is powerful and strong statement of the modern world. We spent almost a year in the studio during the pandemic period, we wrote over 40 songs and had to choose from them. We took 11 tracks of pure rock vibrations with excellent lyrics to rock the house. For the first time in our career, we truly put it all out there. The album's lead single, "Black Art", is about dark times on the internet and hard situations on the political stage. We are all in the process of transformation.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

InSammer: We are all huge fans of Korn and See You on the Other Side (2005) is the records that we can listen to eternally. It’s top-quality sound and lyric wise and it’s a real masterpiece for that moment back in 2005 and nowadays it’s still unbelievably cool to listen.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

InSammer: We are very happy with our video called Endless Sky. This video got a lot of international music video awards at different festivals, among the awards Best Music Video WINTER 2022 at Los Angeles Movie Awards, Best Picture и Best Director December 2021 at New York Film Awards, Best Music Video December 2021 at FilmCon Awards.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

InSammer: When we are looking for some creativity, me and Dennis go to a small village in the north of Sweden to catch some inspiration. The beauty of nature in this cold northern part of Scandinavia give us ideas for many songs. Our drummer Nikita is a huge fan of flight simulators, and our guitarist Oleg is reading a lot about cosmos, stars and astronomy.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

InSammer: No, we are not nervous before the show as each time we are waiting for a meeting with fans, to feel their energy and get a visual contact with them. During the pandemic period, we definitely miss touring.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

InSammer: Back in time I (Vika, vocal) was looking for a guitar teacher and found Dennis. They decided to create music together because they had many common musical tastes. The very first line up recorded InSammer first album “Numbers as Victims”. Then different musicians entered and left the band, until our second album Seeds when Oleg Izotov came to the studio to record some guitars and played a few gigs as a session guitar player. The band members liked his personality and he is still a part of the band. Then a super bass player Nikita and an awesome drummer Alex joined the band.

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

InSammer: Usually our guitarist Dennis brings some drafts, riffs and vibes for a new song. Our other guitarist Oleg prefers to bring ready-made tracks, sometimes even with the vocals. We prepare a bunch of all sorts of small pieces, and then when we meet with the whole band, we try to make a whole thing out of them. And sometimes the song is immediately born as a ready piece and does not require any modifications.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

InSammer: We are from Stockholm, Sweden, it’s a cold and dark country with the fantastic beauty of nature. Swedish music market is huge with many good bands like Sabaton, Meshuggah, InFlames, and others around. It’s kind of a challenge to make cool music when you’re on the market with high competitors’ activity. You need to be a better version of yourself to be demanded by fans.

WHAT IS NEXT?

InSammer: Our fans from Latin America gave us the idea that our track Seeds from the second album can be easily translated into Spanish. Our friend, great vocalist and guitarist Yasmani Silva made very cool lyrics in Spanish and we are working hard on recording this track. La Semilla (Seeds) will be ready in 2022.
