"You’re never too old to rock and roll!" Anders L. Rasmussen on teaching and covering a Lynyrd Skynyrd classic

PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF...

I have been involved in music and bands for many years. Since 2012 I’ve been in the hard rock band, Ohmwork. For a long time, establishing a solo project has been a dream of mine. The plan is to do this solo project on the side when Ohmwork take a break from the album-tour cycle.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE

I’ll be releasing ‘Simple Man’ January 17. I cool interpretation of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic. Hopefully, after a few more single releases, the album will hit the stores before the summer.

WHICH SONG WOULD YOU SAY SUMS UP YOUR SOUND THE BEST?

Difficult to say. This project is in the early stages. I really don’t know. The song ‘The Weight of Life (out November 22, 2024) would probably be the softest of them all. I think for each release the coming months the edges get a little sharper.. Time will tell..

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?

From Kiss cassettes, I’d get from my uncle at the tender age of four via my first guitar at the age of 12 and to begin writing my own songs and playing in bands throughout my school years and beyond.

WHAT DOES TYPICAL WRITING AND RECORDING DAY LOOK LIKE?

Ideas just seem to pop up from nowhere. Sometimes it’s a melody I try finding the chords to, or the other way around where it starts with a riff, then the melody and lyrics. No days seem to be alike. But I’ll always end up recording it on my phone. It is when I listen back to it a couple of days later I now if it’s good or not. Maybe I’ll take the time to demo the idea on my computer when the weekend comes (and I’ve got the time to do it). From then on, I work on the idea and try to make a song out of it.

WHAT HAS BEEN THAT HARDEST THING ABOUT YOUR MUSIC JOURNEY SO FAR?

To stick out. To grow your audience. To stay relevant. The pandemic didn’t help. But it is what it is. Ups and downs. It’s a rocky ride for sure.

WHAT'S BEEN THE EASIEST?

Nothing seems to be easy. That said, I never seem to be short of song ideas. Riffs. That’s a blessing for sure.

WHAT WOULD YOU DOING IF YOU WEREN'T MAKING MUSIC?

A teacher. Been teaching for years. Still are. That’s a very giving and meaningful job.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

Never too late. You’re never too old to rock and roll!
